Debunking these 3 Lip Filler Myths

1. You are Injecting foreign Material Into your Lips

When people hear the term lip fillers, they don’t really know what ingredient is actually inside of them. Most of us have heard the term Hyaluronic Acid that is found in many skincare products, lip products and are even solely in serums at stores such as Ulta and Sephora. Hyaluronic Acid is actually what is inside of lip fillers and is a naturally occurring substance in the extracellular region of our skin cells that bind water molecules to it to keep your skin plump, hydrated and full.

When the Hyaluronic acid (Lip Filler) is injected within the skin it then binds water from surrounding tissues to it, which plumps up your lips.

So to dubunk this myth, foreign material that your body does not recognize is not being injected under the skin.

2. Lip fillers make you look like a duck

Yes, we have all seen those with overfilled lips but I assure you, lip fillers are not supposed to look like that. If they do look overfilled there are a couple reasons why. The client has asked for them to be overfilled, or the Injector was not properly trained and they are just injecting in the filler with no real technique. In 2024 we are done with overfilled lips!

Lip fillers should look natural, and the natural lips should be subtly enhanced and reshaped if they client wants that.

Unfortunately, like all professions, we have those in the field who give the whole profession a bad reputation but I assure you, Lip fillers when done properly, should not make you look like a duck.

3. Lip fillers Last up to 8 months for all clients

We are debunking this myth because their are multiple lip fillers on the market and each one comes with an estimated time frame in which the product lasts. Also, lip fillers are not cookie cutter for every client and because the substance is naturally occurring which means your body will break it down and remove it from the body overtime. If you are younger, healthy, exercise, press your lips together often, apply heat to your lips, or just genetically break the product down faster, this can all impact how long the product lasts for you.

Your cosmetic Injector should know the reference ranges for the product being injected but never be surprised if the product does not last as long as the range, if you do any of the above.

I hope this Information as helpful for you, and if you are thinking about getting a lip filler enhancement, you can book a lip filler consultation to see if you are a candidate!
